So much for being a good blogger. Sorry.
So a quick summary. I am here. Daejeon. It has almost been a month! which is very shocking! A WHOLE MONTH has already gone by...I still feel like only 2 weeks. I am still a giant sponge walking around, absorbing everything in sight. Sometimes when I am teaching at school, I will forget where I am, then I look out the window and see big green mountains, and Korean writing all over the buildings...and it hits me: Im IN KOREA!
So what little interesting tidbit should I share. Right now I will express my pleasure about coffee.
I will call this Coffee Porn.
Even though Koreans do not need coffee like us Americans, and it seems to be more of a trend (note:everything is a trend in Korea) They do know how to treat those beautiful beans. I have been to several different coffee shops (note:they are everywhere!) and many of them roast their own beans on site, and there in no coffee machine! Everything is done to perfection!
Example: I walk into a coffee shop called Hand Drip Coffee, I decide 'Hey I will order the special' (or in my mind the specialty.) I ask for a hand drip coffee. This process takes about 10 minutes by the way. She gets the fresh roasted beans, then grinds the beans, then carefully measures the amount needed for coffee perfection. At the same time, she has the hot water in a glass vase type thing, (my favorite part) with a thermometer inside! yes yes yes a thermometer!!! she places the ceramic hand drip on top of another glass vase thing. She places a non-bleached coffee filter inside, pours the fresh coffee in, then checks the water, which is now the exact temperature needed, begins to pour the water onto the coffee in the most beautifully artistic swirling fashion. Finally after the water dance has ending, the coffee is swirled inside the glass vase thing, then she uses a large spoon to remove all the bubbles that sometimes form, pours the coffee into a beautiful cup and delivers to me! I don't think there is a need for me to say this, but I will, it was amazing.....
Just to give you a taste...well not quite..get your own cup.
Until next time
