HI!
Ok so I'm currently staying at aunty Liz's on Woody Pear farm. It's my last day here today, so I'm flying over to Cairns tomorrow.
My last two weeks in Malaysia were amazing! Well it was a rocky start when we went to the other side of Tioman Island for the turtle sanctury. We treked over (nearly killing myself, it was that hard) arriving at this place that was completley different to Tekek. Alot quieter and only one shop, half an hour walk from where we were staying. Accomodation was great compared to my hut from before.
We were introduced to the turtle sanctury owner who was an english guy of late 60's who could talk for england, but basically said to us that this whole project was a waste of time because it's too late for the turtles they are fast becoming extinct. So after an extremly demotivating talk we met Charlie who was 'turtle man'. We were expecting a turtle expert but instead it was an american guy who had been there 1 month, knew nothing about turtles and spoke so slowly and looked so dazzed we were sure he was a stoner. The whole thing started as a nightmare no one knew what they were doing and everyone was telling us thousands of different things and noone could agree.
After a rocky first couple of days it settled down and we had a great week. We saw hundreds of baby turtles hatch on our first night which was amazing, and spent our time looking after jo the blind turtle, the 4 disabled baby turtles (including jelly bean 2) and going on boats to different beaches to clean them and carry out experiments. Charlie ended up being pretty good at his job and we came to the conclusion he wasnt actually on drugs that was just him!
After a week and a half with the turtles we all decided to leave and do something different for the last couple of days in Malaysia. Everyone there seperate ways in groups and I went back to the other side of the island with a few others. I did my last dive in Malaysia which was awsome!! We saw a turtle and a barramundi cod, I got all 10 fingers stung which was not good! We also hired out a scooter, i have never been so terrified but i loved it.
It was sad to say goodbye to everyone in the group but i know there is so much for me to look forward to.
Now in Perth, it has been lovely staying here this week. It feels just like being at home, been lying in untill 10 every morning, having home cooked food every night, washed all my clothes, unlimited use of internet....its been great! I've certainly been making the most of it! Liz has been a great hostess. We went to Perth zoo on Tuesday and did the Serpentine waterfall yesterday, then going to see wild kangaroos later this afternoon.
Can't wait for Cairns tomorrow.............
