A split location day, the morning was spent in the Ballestas Islands (well on a boat cruising around them) and the afternoon in Huacachina surrounded by massive sand dunes.
Loads of wildlife to be seen on the Ballestas Islands.... Waddling humboldt penguins, lazing sealions, peruvian boobies, peruvian gulls and really ugly turkey hawks. I don't think I have ever seen so many birds in one place!! Literally perched on every spare bit of rock, flying, dive bombing, or just floating along, they were everywhere you looked. Penguins are more agile than I though and have clambered right up to the top of the rocks too, and of course they were very cute. Nicknamed the poor mans Galapagos, i think this is a slightly unfair title as it has it's own charm and even a pre-Inca candleabra eched onto the sand faced cliff.
So from water and boats, to sand and lots of it!! An unbelievable place in the middle of the sand dunes, Hauchachina, we had heard from other travellers that it was beautiful and they weren't wrong. The most colourful birds live here, there is a gorgeous lagoon right in the middle of town a great little Oasis for relaxing. I could have stayed here for a week and just enjoyed the surroundings and the sun, but sadly we move on tonight - the joys of being on a tour!
