The best night's sleep I have had for ages!! And it's weird to think that I am staying at what I still think of as my little cousins flat in Darwin (she really isn't little anymore). 10am and the breakfast crew arrive, otherwise known as Auntie Janet and Uncle Steve (who I will abbreviate to AJ and US for the rest of the blog) and we all tuck into Bacon and Eggs, yummy!! Gemma hasn't been well recently so is wacked and I haven't stopped so we enjoy a lazy morning in the flat, catching up on all sorts. At 2pm we manage to drag ourselves out to see AJ and US for a swim in their pool and mocktail. Posh restaurant has been booked for tonight, so I rummage like mad trying to find something half smart to wear and we head for a fantastic meal that leaves us not being able to move for hours!
The next morning the breakfast team arrive early, 9.30 am and after enjoying breakie on the balcony (which overlooks the Cullen Bay marina, stunning) we head out to Darwin Gaol. It was quite interesting and I should think that the heat alone in the little cells was punishment enough. The last people to be hanged here were 2 guys that murdered a taxi driver in the 70's!! Gemma and I posed for some inside the cell shots and on inspection the kitchen were cleaner and better equipped than most hostels I've stayed at.
Next I head for some sorting out, shopping and haircut. Hours later I was emerging with 4inches of my hair missing, the hairdresser went mad and I'm gutted! A new pair of shoes, a new top and a lonely planet NZ (I thought it was about time to start planning!).That evening we were supposed to be going out on a sunset cruise but the weather was against us and we abandoned the idea in favor of the poshest restaurant in town Pewee's (Uncle Steve's treat again, I couldn't stop him!) The food was excellent, a sharing platter for starter and desert (we learnt from last night) check out the presentation! We head back for an early night mind as we have to be up at 4am to get to the airport, yuk!
That night, I finally manage to delete some of the rubbish from my I-POD, nursery rhymes and trance music, who knows where that came from but a bit embarrassing when it's on shuffle! and then fall into bed.
I get a lift to the airport in Uncle Steve's rocket V6 car, which he assures me was a mistake on the hire car company's part, I think that's just so he got away with driving around in a beast for a few days. We say goodbye at the airport and I wish them well for the rest of their hols and thank them again for all of the food and drink they have treated me to over the last few days.
A big thanks to Gemma, Uncle Steve and Auntie Janet for making my stay in Darwin such a pleasurable one. Gemma your flat is stunning and I hope it all works out and it was nice to meet Alan. The fluffy towels, good nights sleep, million washing loads and great food have set me up for the next few weeks of travelling well. xx
