Day 13.- France to Italy
Almost two weeks have gone by! Heading to Italy, we drove along the coast, an absolutely breathtaking view. Mountains (still low enough there is no tree line) on one side with cities built up the mountains and nestled in the valleys, and coast line on the other. The definite horizon is difficult to see, because the sky goes from blue to white to the water, and the sea stretches on forever out of view. Absolutely stunning, I cant wait to share the photos of it! The actual journey was extremely long, because of heavy traffic and such. We stopped in Verona, which is the supposed birthplace of Romeo and Juliet...this also meant we saw the famous courtyard and balcony that Juliet calls to Romeo from. A statue of Juliet ahs been put up, and its said if you touch her right breast, youll have good luck in love. Of course, we all got a picture! On of the guys on our tour, Ben, is taking videps of the group dancing by all the monuments and cool places we go...Juliets couryard was as a hill which had an excellent view of Verona. Theres been at least one clip done for each city and country, so it should be very cool to see in the end! We arrived in Venice around eight at night, and got settled into the best campsite thus far! We have little trailers that house 3 people, and have a shower, toilet, and powerpoints(plugins in Aussie), all rare together in our cabins. The campground has a bar, supermarkets, pizzaria, restaurant, internet cafe, the whole lot. Tonight there was a band playing some really really good classic rock and other stuff, they were really awesome! Tomorrow brings Venice!
Day 14-Venice
An early start was in order to catch the ferry from our campground to the centre of the city, as Jeremy was on his 45 hour break. The city by water is wonderfuly, it gives a whole new feel. We saw St Marcs basillica, then went to a glass blowing demo; it was absolutely amazing what the maestro could do! After the demo, we went through the glass shop, with various jewellery, paper weights, statues, ornaments, and chandeliers, ranging in price from 20 to thousands of euro. Next was a lace making demo, which was very interesting as well, all that handstitching is nuts. Tree time was until four, kallee and I drifted among groups we saw, looked through the markets, eating pizza rolls and having my first italian coffee...so good, best ever! We also hung our in St Marcs square, chatting and watching all the pigeons. At four, Josh met us and lead the way to our gondola ride. Our guys name was Emiliano, so nice, and he sang for us too! The city of Venice must be experienced by the canals, absolutely lovely. Then is was hometime and supper at the bar. We all just hung around our trailers tonight, talking and listening to music..the best times.ù
Day 15-Venice to Florence
Today we drove from Venice to Florence, and went through Pisa as well; the drive was about six hours total. The Leaning Tower was very neat and we got some cool photos. In Florence our campground has a swimming pool, so we of course had to try that...we had to wear swim caps, thus, photo ops were taken. After supper we went to a Kareoke bar and sang away the night, coming back around 11.
