Hello again!! Me again. Twice in one week hey, aren't you lucky.
Hope your all well?
Ok, so last Friday we headed off three hours South of Perth to the famous wine region, Margaret River!!! I know you are probably all thinking, more wine: but we like it......
We were up early on Friday (well early for me and Claire at 8am). Clint hired a mini bus for us so we all travelled down together. There was Claire and I, Jo and Clint, Matt and Clint's brother Chad. We loaded up the van with food and lots of drink and we were on the road by 10 am. We arrived at Margaret River about 1 pm, we went straight to the house that Jo and Clint had hired to drop off our stuff. The house was lovely. It was at the top of the mountain and had amazing views of the sea.
Once we had unloaded the van we set off for what we were there to do - wine taste!!! We managed to fit in three that afternoon, tasting about 8-10 wines in each winery. When we went in to each one they gave us the wine lists and we sampled each one. We all discovered that none of us were a fan of oaked Chardonnay but we did however, enjoy the unoaked Chardonnay!! We were all wine coinsures by the end of the day. Coming out of each winery we were getting wobblier and wobblier!!! It was great fun going from winery to winery and it was completely free to sample.
The wineries closed by 5 pm so at that point we headed back to our house for cheese and biscuits. Then about an hour later the good old Aussie Barbie was lit. We had a great dinner with sausages, steak burgers, homemade potato salad, coleslaw and couscous. It was 'Bloody lovely' as the Aussies say. However, I have to admit that that evening we were all so tired we did have an early night-I do apologise.
So the next day we had a lazy morning. Clint lit the Barbie again and we had a good old fry up, all cooked on the BBQ. When we were all ready we hit the road again. We went sightseeing first, seeing the ocean views and the actual Margaret River. Then rather than going straight to the wineries we firstly we to the cheese factory. This was like a small farm shop but the cheese was fab, I did purchase some, as most of you know Im partial to a good bit of cheese!! (wonder where I get that from, Mum and Dad). The next stop was to Claire's favourite, the Chocolate factory. She was in her element. Her little face lit up!! So, after lining our stomach's it was off for more good old wine tasting!! Again we managed to go to three wineries, we really are experts now!!
That evening we went to the pub and then we had dinner out in the local town. Whilst we were eating some kids walked past the restaurant and let off a stink bomb - nice hey. After dinner we went back to our house for more bevvis. The next door neighbors came round as well so we just had lots to drink and a late night. It was all good fun though.
The next morning everyone was slightly hung-over but we managed to tidy up from the night before and pack the house up. We had planned to hit two brewery's's before heading home but we didn't quite make it. So we hit the road and was home by 4pm.
We had a fantastic weekend. It was lots of fun. Thank you to Jo and Clint for arranging everything and to Clint for driving there and back.
There we go, our fab weekend in the Margaret River.
Take care all.
Love and Miss you all Lots
Carly and Claire
