Well hello there everyone,
You haven't heard from me for a while so your probably missing me like mad hey!!! hehe.
So as Claire said in the last blog Lauren (my little Sister) joined us for just under a month. Finally being reunited after four and a half months and having my Sister around again was great. We had a emotional reunion at the airport but all happy tears. The first few days we spent in Sydney, doing the old sightseeing bits and bobs and then Lauren and I headed to the tropical state of Queensland to Surfers Paradise for a week.
The first day we arrived we found a really nice hostel. We then headed down to the beach to catch some rays. That evening we met some people who I met when i was travelling before and went to a doctors and nurses fancy dress party. We however didn't dress up, boring I know but we didn't have the right attire!! It was a funny evening though seeing what everyone was wearing. The following day we went to the 'Wet n Wild' water park. It was a good laugh however there seemed to one very large cloud in the sky that decided to stay right above us and the water park. We could see along the coast back to Surfers where it was stunning sunshine with no clouds. So we went on each ride occasionally getting cold when the wind blew and we were wet then we headed back to surfers to the beach before we went shopping (Lauren's favourite past time - isn't it chick??!!!). In the evening the hostel put on a Barbie which was lovely. We met all the girls who were in the other rooms of our hostel which we also met up with when we were back in Sydney, which Claire has already written about. The next day we headed for a full day on the beach with our body boards we had borrowed from the hostel, we did give it a good go but the sea was freeeezzzzing!! We took a small picnic with us and enjoyed catching some rays. I was however by this point looking extremely anaemic laying next to Lauren who was looking a bronzed beauty. That evening we headed out with Aine who was staying in the hostel with us and a few of her friends. She is Irish so we went for dinner and then to an Irish bar to begin with. Then we went to another bar for a dance where Lauren found $100 on the floor....! But there were some weird old people in it. We didn't stay long before we went to a club, where we managed to walk in without paying - result! All in all a really good night.
On the Sunday, we went back to the beach, this time to try our hand at surfing. We hired boards and sexy wetsuits (sorry no photos for you though). We carried them along the beach looking like true surfers chicks. However, reality set in when we got in the water and neither of us could get up for ages. We gave it a good old go and Lauren was first to just about stand on the board. We were slightly reassured by the fact that were loads of people attempting to surf but not many of them actually succeeding (well that's what we told ourselves). We went shopping after surfing (are you all noticing a trend going on!!) before we headed back to the hostel to get ready for out Outback Spectacular Show. The Outback Spectacular Show is set in a huge barn. We had a meal around the arena which I have to say was bloody lovely and whilst you eat they perform the show. It was a story about the Australian outback with animals and performers (but the animals were not being violated-it was all good). We had a great time.
The next day we had an early start as we took a trip to Australia Zoo, the home of the original crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin. We didn't realise at the time that the following day it was the 1st anniversary of his death. We watched a show in the arena that Steve himself used to take, involving snakes, crocodiles, birds, elephants etc. Lauren held a koala and we fed the kangaroos - they had to be priorities for her whilst she was here in Oz. To finish the day off we went to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner.
Lauren had an even earlier start on Tuesday as she went to the stunning Fraser Island, (I had aldready been there so she went for the day). She had great weather for it nice and sunny, and I stayed in Surfers and the weather was horrrible and rainy. She had a fab day, visiting the famous Lake Mackenzie. The following day we were going to head to Byron Bay for the night but the weather was not good and seeing as its a real beachy place we decided to stay in Surfers. We did more shopping in our last two days. We also went to a light show called Infinity, which you walk through. We had to wear sock things over our shoes and gloves. Its hard to describe what it was like but it was good fun. On our last day we went on the bumper cars like children, but Lauren and I love bumper cars, Lauren then pretended to ride a model horse (see the photos). In the evening we had pizza at the hostel, you $5 for all you can eat pizza, and Im not exaggerating when I say there was about 35 pizzas, all different types - yum!
So on the friday after being in Surfers for 7 nights we flew back to Sydney. We had a fab time and Lauren got to see a bit more of Australia. Claire has written about the next week or so that Lauren was with us so I wont got into it again, but I will put some extra photos of mine attached to this blog of Surfers and more of Sydney, including pictures of Lauren's SKYDIVE!!!, preparing for the bridge climb (Mum and Dad thank you so much for my birthday present).
I had the most amazing time whilst Lauren was with me and I thank you so much hun for coming over. I still miss you like mad. Our room isnt the same without the blow up bed being there, hehe!! Love you hun.
So, until next time. Take care everyone.
I love and miss you all lots.
Lots of Love
Carly
