So this is now my second attempt to write this blog, Indias power is SHOCKING and id written a massive one, neraly finished it, and then the computer went dead and i lost it. You find me writing this from Jaipur which is our first stop in Rajasthan. We made it here after a mammoth 19 hour train journey from Mumbai, sounds like hell but we were actually all loving it, we passed the time sleeping and playing 20 questions and Toms quiz game. Jaipur is a crazy place. They've held on to alot of the 'old India' up here so youll find lots of camels and elephants roaming the streets pulling carts and people, men with brightly coloured turbans and women with brightly coloured saris, rows of street vendors making chapatis and nann bread (grace is loving it), cycle rickshaws (men driving you around on a bike with seats in the back) and loads of beggars. It can be difficult to say no to a women begging you for food for her tiny baby but theres just no way we can give money to everyone. It such an interesting place and weve packed in 3 action filled sightseeing days. Weve seen the city palace, Amber fort (complete with an elephant ride), tiger fort, monkey palace, a bollywood film and roamed around the markets which are really interesting, divided up into the scetions of what they are selling, pottery, textiles, silver and gold etc. Jaipur is known as 'the pink city' and so we mamanged to see some brilliant views from all these places. The men here are pretty pervey, we have definatley had to cover up here more (not that we were walking around half naked around the rest of India) and we have had some hairy moments. It definatley been good to have Tom and Matt here for this part of the trip, i dont really know what it would have been like had it just been us three girls, although don worry everyopne, its fine most of the time, you just feel eyes on you as you walk around.
We stayed in Mumbai for 6 days. It turned out to be nowhere near as bad as i had thought it would be, there was quite alot of traffic but the areas we stayed in and litter and stuff but the areas we stayed in were fairly calm and western friendly. It was in Mumbai that we appeared in a Bollywood film!!! It was brilliant and an amazing experince. The film was called 'Love Story 2050' and therefore set in the future. We were there with a big group of white people and we all had to dress in crazy costumes and have our hair and make-up done. Nic had to wear a hose pipe over a black pvc dress some of the other people were wearing even more crazy outfits. We had to make up the crwod who were cheering for the leading lady as she walked down to her convertible and then watch it fly away (hence the title of the film :-) ) alhtough it was a long night, 7pm-6am, it was totlally worth it to see how the Bollywood thing works, and we got paid 500 rupes for it. We also amaged to see Elphanta island, Gandhi museum, Gateway of India and several films, we made the most of spending some time in a western city and im afraid we did munch out on some McDonalds and Pizza Hut!! Mubai was a proper sight and it was really interesting to see our first big Indain city.
We leave Jaipur tomorrow and head to Pushkar which is thought of by the Hindus as the centre of the world, so its no meat, eggs, alcohol or kissing and then on To Jodphur which is known as the 'blue city'.
Hope your all ok, Missing you lots,
Lots of love, Carla, Nic, Grace, Toma nd Matt. xxxxx
