Well. Your hearing from us now in Goa, or rather the capital of Goa, Panjim. We arrived yesterday after an 8 hour trian ride (we were in a cabin with a crazy 73 year old Inidan man, two 'gay' boys and the MOST irritating Iranian man) and we are loving it. For a capital this place is really laid back and its like we've just stepped into the Medditeranian because the town has a massive Portuguese influence. We're staying in a nice homestay which is listed as a heritage building and eating WELL, the food here is proper nice and NO weight is being lost here!
From Mysore we caught our very first slepper trian for 9 and a half hours. The experience was a good one, an upper, middle and lower bunk on one side of the cabin and then three the other side. We arranged ourselves nicelyfor the journey. Me on top, then Nic, and then Grace at the bottom. The original plan was for me to be on the bottom but then a guy opposite told me that when it gets quiet and dark rats come on board, i was terrified but Grace came to the rescue and VERY kindly offered to swap bunks...it was much appriciated even if no rats made an apperance. The train took us to Hospet station where we hopped in a rickshaw to Hampi. How to explain Hampi...? The most AMAZING place any of us have ever been to. Grace describes it like the Flintstones because of the boulder strewn landscape, god knows how they got there but theres thousnads of rocks everywhere, precariously balanced on top of one another. In the misdt of them is a maze of temple ruins of an ancient Hindu city which was destroyed by the Muslims. In the three days spent there we fitted in some proper exploring, we climbed right to the top of one mountain at 7am to check out the early morning views, hried out bikes to check out the ruins further away from the main bazaar and met Laskmhi, the holy temple elephant who gave you a blessing for one rupee. The main town was really nice with lots of little roof top restaurants which served, much to Graces delgiht, brilliant breakfasts! We felt we could have definatley stayed here longer but the b****** trains never seem to run exactly when you want them to so we were limited in the amount of time we had.
We got to keep this one short because i having proper trouble spelling, Grace is on at me about it and we seem to have lost Nic to the sunshine.
Will write soon with more Goa adventures, love and miss you all,
Carla, Grace and Nic. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
