We spent most of the Friday on a bus to Hue.Part of the journey took us to the Hai Van Pass, a beautifully scenic drive up a mountain. We stopped at the top to take pictures and we were so high up that we were in a cloud! In the evening we all went to a Royal Banquet. We all dressed up in Vietnamese royal dress with Gloria and Tom (married Canadians) dressed as the King and Queen. We were sat on two tables with the King and Queen at a separate table at the top of the room. While we ate our feast we were serenaded by local musicians and a singer. The food was amazing; some dishes were made to look like birds.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped for ONE drink in DMZ Bar; a typical backpacker bar covered in graffiti of people who had got drunk there. Yet again, we didn't get in till 2am but this time I wasn't drinking.I was watching the two 35 year old Australians living it up instead.
Saturday - Spent all day on the back of a motorbike exploring the countryside.First stop was a market for locals. It was very different from the ones we were used to.There was no one trying to sell you crap you didn't need and not a fake designer t-shirt in sight.Instead, this was where locals buy their food, clothes and drink. They were even selling fluffy chicks!Huy introduced us to a local 73 year old woman who could read palms, so we all got her to tell us our fortunes. But I ended up regretting it because she told me I would have 5 kids and I will be pregnant within a year.I don't think so!!!!!!!!!!Apparently I will be getting married at 29 to a younger man of 25.Next we stopped to look at how incense sticks and conical hats were made, and then we went to the tomb of Tu Duc.For lunch we went to a nunnery where we had a vegetarian feast.Next up was a pagoda, then back to the hotel for dinner.
Sunday - Had a well deserved lie in.Managed to get on the internet and update my blog site.
