Friday we spent travelling to the coast to a place called Sihanoukville. It is Cambodia's version of Thailand's beach and island resorts. We had dinner as a group on the beach, a seafood BBQ consisting of the two of the biggest shrimp/prawns, two pieces of squid and some barrucuda fish, delicious.
The evening was spent in a bar called Utopia, it was holding a Leap Year party, however our guide told us that they have a party every night. The bar was outside and looked like a beach shack, it was full of hippies with dreadlocks and very cheap drink. The barman juggled with fire while we drank shots dribbled down a huge slanted block of ice on the bar. My kind of place.
Next morning I could have done with a lie in but we were ready to leave for our boat trip at 7am. The boat took us out towards the islands and we stopped to do some snorkelling, swimming and fishing. And we actually caught some!!!! They were only little but we still cooked them later. We headed to a deserted beach and spent the afternoon swimming and sunbathing. Lunch was delicious, more freshly caught shrimp and an amazing vegetable curry. On the way back to the mainland we stopped off at Bamboo Island for a beer, and that's when we all began to realise that we were looking a bit pink. Nevermind, we had one of the best days so far and a bit of sunburn wasn't going to change that.
Sunday was a free day so I managed to find somewhere with decent internet and finally started writing this blog, it took me three hours and I still can't upload photos. Later we went to the beach to chill out because it was so hot. We were wandering down the beach checking out all the bars when three cows appeared, nudging their way inbetween Cat and Nat. Not sure how they got there, they must have been looking for a party.
I warn you now that I have fallen in love with this place, it's a bit like Thailand 20 years ago. We have already found an empty bar to rent, so if I don't come home you will know where to find me.
