It wasn't until they stepped out of customs and into the Santiago airport terminal that I realized how much I missed them. Though my time in Chile seemed to fly, the long awaited visit from my parents was one of the longest waits of my life. Trying to hold back tears, I gave them the biggest, bravest smile I could. My eyes didn't listen for very long and soon my face was soaked.

We had no idea where to go or what to see, so once the sun came out we wandered around the village. A few days later we ended up going back to Chiloe and visiting Castro. I have to admit we were a bit disappointed. Again, we didn't go with a tour so we wandered all around the city in search of local crafts, but didn't find anything worth taking back with us. All in all, I think a visit to Chiloe needs a bit more planning. I didn't really know what to expect, and was a little disappointed in the island. Had I done more research, I think we could have had a very different experience.
