Day 15 - Saturday 12 September 2015
We had a lovely lazy & relaxing morning and didn't leave the apartment until around 1pm.
We were going to the football to see Espanyol Barcelona vs. the Real Madrid at 4pm but needed to meet the bus at 2pm.
We didn't have much time but wanted to get something to eat first. We walked past a few places but everything was very busy. We settled on a tapas restaurant as we figured that would be a quick meal.
Jazz ordered a few little breads and toastadas for us from our very friendly waiter. He reminded us of our friend Mohammed so we liked him.
On the way to the bus we stopped to get ice creams and walked to our meeting point which was out the front of the Hard Rock Cafe.
Jazz found our bus for us and we hopped on. It was all tourists and it took about 30 minutes to get to the stadium.
Once we got there we stopped to buy some merchandise so we could look the part. We decided to go for Barcelona as a guy on the bus told us they were the underdogs. Jazz bought a shirt and I got a flag.
We got our tickets scanned and went inside. The security guard confiscated the lid to our water bottle, we asked why but he didn't speak English so he mimed throwing the bottle and we understood.
Once we got in we went to buy some drinks but it was an alcohol free stadium, the girl said we could have alcohol free beer but we passed.
We found our seats quite easily but everyone around us was very confused as it wasn't a very intuitive seating plan. There was a mix of tourists and Spanish people around us and a mix of supporters too. There was definitely more blue (Barcelona) in the overall crowd though so we were feeling good about supporting them.
The game was a bit disappointing, Barcelona lost to Madrid 6-0! And because they didn't score it wasn't suspenseful at all. We still enjoyed the game but if we were to go to a game again we would do more research to make sure the teams were on more even levels.
We also didn't like how many people were smoking in the stadium. There was this group in front of us with 3 adult guys and two kids. The kids were sitting in between the guys and the guys were just smoking the whole game.
After the game we had to find our bus and then it dropped off back in front of the Hard Rock Cafe.
It was still quite early so we decided to go back to Bodega Biarritz where we went earlier in the week for dinner. The same friendly guy as earlier in the week greeted us and got us a seat at the bar. He liked Jazz's Barcelona football top and asked to get a picture with her.
Our dinner was delicious and as we were sitting there I heard the group next to me had Aussie accents. I asked the where they were from and they were from Perth! What a small world. They had come to Spain to do a walk that left the next day.
It was still early when we finished dinner so we went strolling through the Gothic quarter like we had done most nights. We bought some delicious gelato and wandered around looking in some of the little shops.
On our way back to the apartment we stopped in at the burger place we went the day before and ordered some beers as we'd seen they had a big beer menu.
As we were leaving some English guys started talking to Jazz because she was wearing her Barcelona shirt. They also wanted a photo with her!
We ended up giving them our clubbing passes which we had bought a few days earlier but didn't use at all. They were very appreciative as it gave them free entry into all of the clubs.
They said they wanted to buy us dinner but we went home and went to bed. We had already had dinner, gelato and then beer so we were pretty full.
