Day 26 - Wednesday 23 September 2015
We had tickets to get into the Uffizi at 8.45am so we were up early and had to power walk there on an empty stomach to make it on time. We both felt a little queazy by the time we got through security.
Most of the art in the gallery was from 1400-1600 so it was pretty crazy to see things that are so old. But there was such a strong religious theme throughout 90% of the pieces, it wasn't really my taste. There were also heaps of statues of naked men, it was apparently very much the fashion when you idolised someone back then to get them to strip and either paint or sculpt them.
We stopped and got some coffees at the shop in the gallery and I managed to spill some down my white top.
Jazz and I wanted to go and do some more shopping but when we googled good shopping outlets in Florence it looked like they were ages away. We hadn't quite figured out the Italian public transport system and taxis were quite expensive so we didn't want to travel that far. We decided to just have a look in the shops and markets around the city instead. I bought a scarf to try and cover up my coffee stain.
We tried to go to the Duomo again but the line was crazy long and it started raining part way through. We didn't want to wait in the rain so we continued walking instead.
We walked past a leather shop that had a really nice jacket out the front. There are heaps of leather shops in Florence but all the ones we'd been into so far had kind of old fashioned looking jackets so when I saw this one I thought I had to give it a go.
I tried it on and fell in love. I then looked at the price and found out it was really expensive. The guy said he would cut the price (which I think they all do) which made it slightly more reasonable but still a lot. I also bought some cool leather shoes and then said we have to go because I was spending too much money.
The rain was getting really bad to we ducked into the nearest place that had cover and it was a massive food market with all these amazing stalls.
Because the weather was so bad we decided we would go home, cook lunch and drink the wine we bought the other day.
We went all over the market and bought fresh bread, pasta, onion, garlic, cherry tomatoes, basil, sugo, cheese and salami. We got them all from different stores so we got a good chance to look all around.
When we got home we cracked open the wine while we cooked up a our feast. Everything was fresh so it didn't take long and it was delicious!
After we ate we spoke to Karen on the phone for quite a while to catch up on things as we hadn't managed to catch each other for a few days.
Jazz then decided we needed some snacks so took some money and went to the shop to bring back provisions.
I heard a knock on the door a few mins later so went and answered it. She had brought to our door a small Jazz band to serenade me. She said she was walking down the street and saw them so made them come back with her.
Jazz hadn't gotten snacks yet so went back out to actually get some. After she came back we finished off our wine and relaxed at our apartment for the rest of the apartment.
Later when we got hungry we went back to the pop up restaurant in the square near our house and got some pizzas to share. They were so delicious.
Jazz was starting to feel very sniffly so we went home and had an early night.
