We drove north and then turned off the highway and headed west inland towards the outback. We parked up and headed for a waterfall which is the biggest waterfall in Australia with a drop of 268 metres. The waterfall was amazing with a huge rainbow running through the middle we cooked an omelette and ate just next to the waterfall plus I had a glass of wine at 10 30am! After this we did a couple of walks I wanted to go to the bottom of the waterfall but they where doing some construction and it was forbidden. After we headed to a local town for some shopping and a little look about. We decided to try and see Murray falls but on the way stopped at a little stretch of river for a look we met a couple from Portugal that have lived In the area for twenty years and advised
Us not to swim as there are a lot of crocodiles in the water (lucky they told me cos I was ready for a paddle) after they left we fed the fish and saw a huge eel and a beautiful turtle swimming in the river then a lad and a girl came over the guy was a local who lived here his whole life and when he spotted the turtle he jokingly said shall I jump in and grab him we both laughed and said no chance mate he then steadied himself on the river band and dived in a good 10foot distance to the water with his palms open we waited a few seconds and I honestly thought this crazy guy has hit a rock and is unconscious then he appeared from the water holding this bloody turtle in his hand! Unbelievable he dived right at the turtle from 10foot of the river bank and manage to grab him just as he hit the water he then told us after that he had been doing it since he was 7 and it always impressed the backpackers that travelled through his town he went on to explain about the turtle and over wild life and we held the turtle and took a few pics then put him back. We got back to the van and tried to get to Murray falls before it got dark we ran up the 2k walk to catch yet another stunning sunset over the huge waterfall and took some pictures and then did a little work out with some press ups a jog a lifting some heavy branches!. Than back to the van found a rest area cooked a chilli again and chilled out another great day only bad thing is we've gotta give the van back in 3 days and start to find a job I suppose at the moment I'm thinking to find a Job in Brisbane and work for 4 months and go straight to Asia as I've done the east coast of oz now and would spend all my money so quick on the west coast where as I could do 3 months in Asia very comfortably but first with stop off in new Zealand and Fiji so many things to see but just not enough money. I am missing home a little but the breathe taking things you see from day to day soon remind you why I'm travelling In the first place it's certainly more interesting then working in a restaurant in Berkshire any ways that's it for now I'm off to mission beach tomorrow and some more waterfalls and walking so speak soon your faithfully mr j k supertramp
