Peter and Caroline's Most Excellent Adventure!!!
Off to find Padington bear in deepest darkest Peru!!
Crossing the border between Ecuador and Peru was certainly a deep and dark experience that much we can say. Pete broke the passport controllers machine and the bus we were on was adament they were leaving us behind because they had a schedule to keep!! Lots of excitable Spanish was spoken by all parties until someone had the brain wave to process his passport manually. Thank God! The place was not a nice one. We passed through it feeling like a travelling freak show as the locals stared at us and tried to approach us - the tour guide referred to us as "walking gold" and he is from Peru!! By the time we had walked across the border we had quite a following. Call of "Hey Gringo" echoed all around us. Most interesting!!
Mancora is a seaside town on the Pacific Coast of Peru. The beach is not like those we have been spoiled with in Austalia but none the less very good. There were crabs everywhere but they didn't bother us at all. The surf was pretty good and Caroline had a ball sea kayaking and wave diving.
There are two bars really that everyone goes to at this time of year the Iguana and the one over the road from it (?!). One is to drink in and the other to dance in and drink and dance we did. We had plenty to celebrate as Caroline's brother had just had a baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really good fun and the locals really looked after us, chatted and showed us how to salsa!!
Generally we chilled out (what more?....Yes more!!) played volleyball (during which incidently we found that Pete is pretty damn good at it), swam a lot, surfed a lot, sunbathed and danced.....and of course drank.
Shame our time here was so short, a really cool place to chill, next stop Trajillo....
