Peter and Caroline's Most Excellent Adventure!!!
Cuenca is a pretty big and architecturally beautiful city, the centre is full of cobbled streets and fancy churches. Inca ruins can be found on the outskirts and tradtional ecuadorian dress is still worn by many of the locals.
Both of us had rotten colds the whole time we were there (probably something to do with that damn volcano). Still we got out and about a bit. There were loads of markets selling anything and everything. We felt like giants walking around as the ecuadorians are only small so only have small passage ways through the markets. They are also really colourful so in contrast we felt very bland. Once you got out of the traditional centre the rest of the place is pretty modern and the bars and restaurants were really good and still quite cheap, a good place for a night out!
Our hotel was lovely, like staying at someone's house. We received a traditional welcome drink that was like a hot toddy so very comforting given our condidtions!! Unfortunately there was no hot water (again arghhhh) but we managed to get a few degrees of heat into the pipes by day 2!!
Next stop Peru........
