What a beautiful, sunny day out today. Picked up a quick bite at Dunkin Donuts then on to Jamestown along the Colonial Parkway. Wanted to get there in time to do the archaeology walk/talk. Our guide, Joe, was very informative and fun. What should have been a half hour guided tour, turned into an hour and 1/4. Learned a lot and had a great time.
We then walked to the 'Archaeium' which is a building on the site that houses all the artifacts that they have uncovered at the site since 1974 when archaeologist Kelso took over. They had thought that the original Fort Jamestown from 1607 had eroded into the James River, but Kelso had a theory about where the fort might be found. Eventually he did find evidence of the fort and they found it. We bought his book at the gift shop.
We went to the cafe and had a sandwich and drink. Sat outside in the sun on the bank of the James River and ate. Felt beautiful!
It was late, but we drove over to Yorktown along the Colonial Parkway. Went into the visitors centre, but they were only going to be open for 1/2 an hour, so we wandered around the gift shop then out to the battlefields to drive around for a bit, but Garry was getting hangry so we went to find a restaurant. As we were leaving the Yorktown we saw a couple standing on the side of the road looking up with a camera in their hands. We stopped too and saw that they were looking at 2 bald eagles sitting on a nest. Took some photos. Imagine just driving along a road and looking up and seeing eagles. Amazing!
Back to Williamsburg and stopped at the Golden Corral. Big buffet. Very good. Back to the resort and did some laundry. The drier took forever.
