Fort Langley, British Columbia
Sophia and I arrived in Vancouver, very excited, then after 3 hours in customs/immigrations, the excitement had definitely simmered down to boredom, tiredness and annoyance. We got home at 12am and pretty much went straight to bed.
I woke up bright and early and went and explored Fort Langley, I went garage sale-ing and bought Sophia and I a double bed, for $20!! Once Taylor and Sophia woke up... around 1pm we went shopping, food and alcohol for Taylor had planned a 'welcome home' party at our house that night. We also tried to desperately get a mobile phone working so we could contact home. That definitely did not work. It's official... I hate all phone companies in Canada.
After giving up on the mobile, people started coming over. It was fantastic to see everyone again :) people have changed so much... and yet are all still the same. I saw everyone except kyle and cole, who both came over at different times that week. The party was fun, lots of card games, and just drinking games in general. Sophia got herself "shot-gunning" a beer, thinking that she was merely 'shot-gunning it' in Australian terms, meaning she was having it, but in Canadian terms it means poking a hole at the bottom and opening the can and pretty much downing it as fast as you can. In addition the can of beer was probably bigger than a 'Tallie' in Australian terms. It was HUGE. There was barely anything in the house, so it was good to not have to worry about breakages, but people kept getting themselves locked in the bathroom or bedrooms. The door handles are.... broken.
The next day we set about starting to fix up the house... well the door handles were the top priority. And setting it up as homely. For the next week someone different came over every night. Which was awesome fun, so good to see everyone!! :) Like a party every night. I'm too scared to go talk to the neighbours, fairly sure they must hate us. We're trying to tone it down a bit.
During the week, we got internet hooked up, mobile phones working and electricity and gas changed over to my name. Some of this took some manipulation of the phone people, mainly just pretending to be my mum. It's so hard to do anything when you're 18 over here, because I'm 'underage,' and because we were all so young they wanted to charge us all these sort of first home owners crap, so it became much easier to just be Fiona Moore. :) haha
This week Sophia and I have been trying to land ourselves jobs, Sophia is now a bar attendant at the local pub, where everyone loves her accent. My jobs kinda suck at the moment, but I'm just waiting till I'm 19. TWO WEEKS!!.
Anyways I got a job at a cute little bakery/coffee place in Walnut Grove, I start on Tuesday, but I have to catch a bus there, where takes away from the cuteness. Then I'm also working at a little local pizza shop in Fort Langley. Which would be awesome, except they want me to work Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights which sucks. Those are my future clubbing nights when I finally become legal!!
Anyways I'll hold onto both of them for the moment, see if anything comes up. Oh but the wages over here!! absolutely horrible... I'm getting paid 8$ and 9$ an hour. That's so illegal! Going from $17 to 8$ is just... devastating. But nothing I can do about it. That's just what it is over here.
This weekend I'm going to try to go to the local pub, do the whole underage thing. It's so strange to be going from working in a liquor store to not even being able to enter one without breaking the law... so breaking the law here I come. Unfortunately it puts Sophia in an awkward position, she can't really be seen with me seeing as she works at the pub. So we'll see how the weekend plays itself out. It's Cara and Paul's last day here before they head off to uni, so definitely want to go out.
Anyways that pretty much rounds it off.
