Before I get into the main theme of today'a blog, I would like to mention a few things.
We are terribly concerned about the lack of regular classroom materials. There is very limited paper, few pencils, erasers, colored pencils, scissors, pencil sharpeners, tape, board erasors, etc. We had a great time at the International Book Store buying our eight teachers much needed supplies. Can't wait to see how excited the students wii be starting tomorrow.
Last week Joyce asked me to return a book to one of her teachers. The book is The Wheels On The Bus. These kids love to sing and dance. I decided to start my class with the song. About 50 kids joined in with great gusto. A big succees. The only problem was that I was in the wrong room.
Are biggest highlight so far was our shoe experience this Saturday. CCF has an arrangement with Tom's Shoes to pass out shoes to needy children in the Provinces outside of Phnom Pehn. A bus and truck of about twenty students, faculty, and volunteers travele 41/2 hours to a school in Kompong Thom Province. We packed up a hot lunch, drinks and goodies for our adventure. It was an unbelievably rewarding experience. We measured the shoe sizes of all the children, faculty and community residents Joyce and I had the assignment of stamping thumbs so they would not try to get a second pair. The kids came from everywhere including the whole rural community. We passed out 1,000 pair os shoes and could have used more. What a thrill. Also went 12 hours without a bathroom. Think about it.
Love to all

susan O How joyous! I'm sure the two of you exuded enthusiasm that was felt by all.
Liz "Also went 12 hours without a bathroom." Tom's Shoes should send 1000 more pairs of shoes and one Port-a-John.
