Weather: overcast, warm, 70s
After spending a day traveling on the plane and in the car, we were ready for our first adventure. This was the first trip to Tennessee for both of us.
We drove about 1.5 hrs from the Hampton Hotel in Knoxville to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with Charles. On the way we saw some really cheesy amusement places (near Gatlinburg). We drove for miles seeing nothing but Titanic, Ripley's, Jurassic Park, etc. rip-offs.
Once we arrived at the park, we watched a video at the Visitor Center. We drove up to Clingmans Dome and hiked a mile to the overview (pictured above). It was very windy and cold. The overview is a big concrete walkway and platform. We saw Appalachian Trail signs near the overlook, but did not hike on it that day.
Later we visited Noah Ogle Place and hiked around it.
Had dinner at Buddy's BBQ. I decided to eat as much Southern cuisine as possible on this trip. I wasn't sure what exactly Southern cuisine meant, but BBQ meat was definitely part of it.
