So after our 3 nights at the hostel it was treat time at the Hilton.Although not as nice as the one in Beijing it was nice to get out the shared rooms into a nice hotel for another evening of cheap dinners and washing underwear in the bath. Turns out the Hilton were also providing the accomodation for the ATP Shanghai tennis masters, although we didnt meet Murray cait did meet one of the guys that made it to the semi final. The next day we went to Shanghai Zoo, couldnt come here and not see the Panda Bears although not as giant as we thought they would be. Our last day we went for a wonder round the shops went to Barbie world and purchased a new laptop.
We left the building site of Shanghai and travelled an hour by train to the city of Suzhou. Also known as the Oriental Venice. We were expecting a small town with waterside shops and homes but infact was another large city. Theres a local saying "In heaven you have Paradise on earth we have Suzhou". Classed as a "small" city it still has nearly 6million residents. They should have had a saying about the mosqitoes, between us we were bitten alive on the first night and decided to put up our Net to stop the little sods getting us.
Arriving just after 1.00 we went for a walk and some lunch. On the first night here we wondered the local area and got some food for our first chinese cooking experience.
Our 2nd day in Suzhou we went out early to visit the master of nets gardens and the twin pogodas followed by some leisurely strolls around the streets. We decided to sample the local "Hotpots" at the restaurant we went to the previous day. Served in a large pot, with a burner on the table a hotpot is basically a soup with some vegetables and meat bones in for flavour, and then you choose extra vegetables to add in and cook yourself. Dinner was going well untl the water level of the soup went down, and there smiling up at me was the chickens head. Bad Times! Surprisingly lost my appitite after that. Luckily cait didnt see it until the next stir when the claw came out to get us. Also Bad Times. So we decided to call it a night, got the bill and went home. Via the supermarket of course for some comfort food. Good Times!! In her haste to leave the restaurant cait left behind her brand new Hello Kitty chopsticks she'd bought.
So today, our final day in Suzhou we had a stroll around the shops and chilled in the park for a bit. Packing up ready for a train shortly to Nanjing.
