Onward again.
Stopped for lunch in the amazing seaside town of Nazare.
White sand stretched for as far as the eye could see, down to the most amazingly blue sea.
I wandered along the path right next to the sand.
And what was amazing here were all the colourful striped tents on the sand.
Beach Boxes!
There seemed to be hundreds of them.
Tiago said that you just hire one for the day.
You can change in there.
Keep your belongings etc.
And you had your day on the beach.
They looked magnificent.
I did start to walk across the sand to the water ...
But I gave up half way and turned round.
I decided I was too hungry.
But I did admire the Beach Boxes on the way down, and back.
Great idea.
And so pretty.
Found a wonderful little restaurant with tables on the footpath just across the road from the beach.
Had a lovely chicken salad here.
Talked to the waiter and members of our tour as they ambled past.
Beautiful spot.
Tiago had told us that this area, over the hill was famous for it's enormous surf.
People come from all over the world to surf on the far side of the Lighthouse point.
I saw many postcards and magnets with a famous picture of people by the Lighthouse watching an enormous wave break.
Really looked like they were going to be washed away!
Lovely time wandering this town.
Always in sight of the beach.
Found the most wonderful jewellery shop and bought 4 little angels, all playing a musical instrument ... to put out at Christmas time.
I really checked out this shop.
I really wanted something from Nazare and the 2 ladies in this shop for lovely.
We chatted away for ages.
Then they produced a tray of silver bracelets.
There it is, a simple silver band.
I love it.
( I waved goodbye to this shop as the bus pulled away.)
A short time later, we arrived at the beautiful old town of Obidos.
White washed old, medieval buildings.
Long narrow streets.
Stunning bougainvillaea growing high over these old buildings.
Especially stunning, I think because the white buildings provide such a backdrop for these amazing flowers.
First stop was Ginjinha da porta.
For port in a little cup made of chocolate.
OMG.
Talk about delicious.
You drank the port, then you ate the cup!
Wow!
( I really should have had that 2nd one when Tiago offered!)
Damn.
Much laughter and everyone enjoyed this.
It was just special.
Then off to walk the streets.
Up to the castle...
Tiny narrow streets.
Lots of very colourful shops.
And back to the beginning.
Then up those steps to the wall of the town.
What a view.
I didn't walk much of the wall here.
Bit scary really.
A very long drop down on the town side.
And back down the steps, I was hugging that big wall!
Ahh... ice cream time.
Beautiful little town.
And so amazingly old.
