Hi!
Right, first post from Australia! I've hardly had the chance to come online to update so that's why it's been a while!
Well, I arrived in Sydney on Monday 7th Sept after a 22hr flight (bleugh) early in the morning, and a couple of hours later the rest of my room mates arrived at the youth hostel (G'day Woodduck Youth Hostel, Woolloomooloo, Sydney). The first week, we had an orientation to sort out medical care and bank accounts and boring, but important stuff like that. We also went on a Sydney Harbour cruise, landing in Watson's Bay then sailing back to Circular Quay, went on a cliff walk from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach, learnt how to surf (that's me in the picture, honest!), had an Aussie BBQ and had kangaroo to eat, an aboriginal culture show and a trip to the Blue Mountains National Park! Not to mention all the lounging around on the beach. It was a busy week!
Slight change on plan - instead of working straight away my new friends and I decided to get Greyhound bus passes for the East Coast and make our way up to Cairns, stopping off on the way. So, the next Monday (14th Sept) after we arrived, we got a night coach to Coffs Harbour and spent a couple of nights there. It was nice, but a lot quieter than the G'day hostel, and the surrounding places were further afield so we only got around to a bonfire on the beach and canoeing down Coffs Creek! Yesterday, we got another coach in the morning up to Byron Bay. When we arrived, we checked into Main Beach Backpackers hostel then walked up to Cape Byron Lighthouse then down to the beach and spent the afternoon reading and sunbathing! We're taking it a bit easier today and just relaxing, catching up with internet-ness and buying necessities. Planning on staying here in Byron until Sunday when we'll make our way up to Surfers Paradise, spend some time there, then on to Brisbane!
Look out for another update soon, bye!
