...we book a Circle Line cruise around Manhattan - book it for 10am, mistakenly think it's for 11am, arrive late at 11.15am and get rescheduled for 12am
...we enjoy unparalleled views over Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and even the Bronx from the waterside and I'm happy to find that the same amazing guide as last year still narrates the whole cruise with a million fascinating trivia to tell
...we find out that people wish each other happy Mother's Day here. No opportunity is wasted to be nice!
...we experience firsthand a couple of instances of real human kindness (a guy helping Tamara up the stairs with her suitcase, a lady lending me scotch tape at a post office) in the busy crowded stressed out Manhattan - who said New Yorkers were rude?
...we realize the metro in this city is a city in its own right and has its own works of art - in fact it is full of different forms of artistic expression; and we visit one of the more famous ones: Tim Otterness's "Life Underground" project at 14th street subway station; but there are countless others
...we eat at the much hyped Luzzo's Pizzeria Napoletana in the village and find it overrated (me) (burnt pie, dry toppings) and excellent (Tamara)
...we stroll around the Village and marvel at how European many parts of it feel. No wonder studio rents in the part of town run $3-4k
...I wonder why New York Metro Transit Authority places signs "avoid trips, slips and falls" next to every staircase on the subway system and at the same time lines steps with metal sheets in this rainy city...
...we wonder about how Manhattan climate with its many skyscrapers resembles mountain weather - it's equally fickle and unpredictable
...I am in awe of the sheer number of Starbucks shops in Manhattan alone - you're literally never farther away from one than 3-4 blocks, most often closer. There are around 230 of them now. And counting.
...we discover a new flavor of M&Ms - chili nuts. They're delicious so we stock up for Europe.
