I think there must have been a bit of excitement flowing through Kimbo's bones as he was up before the genny stopped! For all that we didn’t get away until 10.30am. No change in the weather still very humid and hot.
There’s a slow leak in one of the trailer tyres so that had to be attended to before we took off.
We didn’t have far to go today and it was so exciting to see water lying around Roebuck Plains and of course water across the road with some floodway damage – that wasn’t exciting. With water saw the proliferation of bird life, having not seen much native wildlife for days, it was a wonderful sight to see.
We only stopped at Roebuck Roadhouse in order for Kimbo to pump up the tyre and with fingers crossed we made it into town unscathed.
We thought we knew exactly where we were going but a new road threw us off course immediately and we missed the turnoff to the caravan park, we now know one of the industrial areas very well in order for us to turn around.
We spent the afternoon settling in and the park is gloriously green and beautifully maintained and although we’re packed in like sardines (as is the norm in caravan parks) we have a huge cement slab, a nice patch of red dirt that will turn to green once we water it, tie downs (for when cyclones come), and a big en-suite which is fantastic for storage and Kimbo’s calling it "his bathroom" and room to park the car. The trailer took up too much space so we moved it elsewhere.
It’s been 10 years since we left Broome and not much has changed, apart from houses that have popped up everywhere. The town is looking a little tired and unloved with a lot of empty shops and businesses. It didn’t take long for us to feel “at home”.
I’ve gotta confess I’d forgotten how the humidity impacts at this time of the year. I can’t see the air con being turned off any time soon or the push bikes used! Soft I know but it is what it is.
Gantheaume Point was where we had a couple of sundowners on Sunday night together with half of Broome it appeared. It was beautiful down there and no surprise it’s so popular, the perfect way to end a weekend.
We had our first storm on late Monday night/early Tuesday morning and it was glorious, apart from some loud claps of thunder and lightning that must have cracked overhead. Fabulous to hear rain belting down on the roof. The next day was glorious, so much cooler and fresher. Perfect for a late afternoon walk along Cable Beach and the sights it held. Nothing surprises me here. Most days the cloud rolls in late in the afternoon but apart from this storm it’s been all quiet.
We booked the car in to have the water leak found and fixed. Kimbo was concerned that we’d blown a head gasket after talking with the mechanics. So we hired a car and left the car in the hands of professionals. Three days later we had the car back in our possession and our wallet $594.85 lighter. The head gasket is fine, but they did spend 3.5 hours working on the car replacing a couple of clips and a bit of heater pipe. After I picked myself up off the ground, dusted myself off, it was fabulous to have the car back.
It’s been great to catch up with some old friends and visit some old haunts.
We managed to catch a Stairway to the Moon on Wednesday night and witnessed some “moon rage”. There was plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the experience but “a professional photographer” seemed to think their view of the phenomenon was more important that someone else's – sad really.
We voted yesterday in the WA Senate election so don’t need to worry about that again thankfully.
We’ve been here a week and Kimbo was to start work on Monday but his Monday is today. So for the first time in a few weeks the alarm was set at 5.30am and we were up and into it. The perfect opportunity for me to have an early morning walk along the beach.
Hope to get to the markets in the morning.
Life is grand!
Will update when there’s more to tell.

betty M go for it you two, and have fun
ash-wendyfrank Ahhhhhh wet and green......that must be glorious??!! Still constipated here.....weather wise! Glad ya's made it safe and sound, good luck with the job Kim. Love your walking track Di.
Liz Fitzgibbons All is well with the world by the sounds, at least in your litte corner of it anyway.
Gary Johnston I noticed that you voted in the WA senate election, we are full time travellers and have found the voting issue a perplexing one, when we left we missed a council election in our once home area and fined for the privelidge, next election (state) we happened to be in the area of our old stamping ground so we voted as per our old home address and was advised that this is what we should do in future We have a postal address in NSW so was asked why we were not on the NSW role, wife just finished a discussion with the electoral council and has been told that we now do not have to vote (we are itinerate travellers) but can if we choose and at the electorate where we last had a permanent home.
busmartins Wendy green glorious green indeed! You'll see plenty of that soon. Kimbo's enjoying his gig so far and yes a great walking track. Are you counting down the days yet?
busmartins Gary there are many issues we find perplexing as full time travellers but you're right voting is one. Can't tell you how many people we've spoken to both within and outside the AEC re voting. I'm happy to vote and if we're registered in another state when an election comes up we just do a postal or absentee vote. Works for us. It's all about personal choice....do whatever works for you.
ash-wendyfrank Yep Di!! We have a week to go! Getting REALLY excited. Gunna camp on a beach and chill & kayak & snorkel, read, sleep....ahhhh.....then maybe head inland. But you know what it's like, plans aren't set in stone :)
