After traveling for about three hours we came to the township of Berea. In acts we read this:
10 As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. 12 Many of the Jews believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.
13 When the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God at Berea, they went there too, agitating the crowds and stirring them up.
The picture here is of a mosaic of Paul's visit to the Bereans, he escaped from Thessalonica and was warmly received in Berea where he had a great ministry.
In front of this mosaic were three smooth and well worn steps that had been the steps of the synagogue when paul arrived. It was an inspiring time to stand there and feel the cool smooth texture of the marble steps and to ponder Paul's entry into the synagogue using these very steps.
Can we change the world? Our visit to Berea tells me yes! One person at a time, one opportunity at a time to tell the good news about Jesus is all we need to change the world in which we live, because the Bible tells us that this news about Jesus' death and resurrection is the power of God to change lives from the inside out.
Being in Berea was a moving experience, and as we sat around the small area where Paul had preached to the people of this town we rededicated our lives to being witnesses for Jesus.
We then traveled a further hour and a half to Thessaloniki where we will spend the night.
