DAY 6: OUTTA THIS WORLD!!!
Well the U.S. East Coast here has a couple of hours left in 2014 and it's safe to say we've seen it off in a big way.
We spent the day at Cape Canaveral, home of the Kennedy Space Center - in short, when it comes to rockets and shuttles, we saw where they build them, where they launch them and where they keep them.
To be honest, behind Disney and Universal, the space centre was a bit of an after thought, but I'm glad we did it. There were definitely two 'wow' moments here - when the doors are opened and you walk into a massive hanger containing an actual space craft there in front of you within touching distance, it's hard not to be overawed. The Apollo rocket (for what would've been mission Apollo 18) and the space shuttle Atlantis are just jaw-dropping when you see them in person. All the artefacts and memorabilia (including the opportunity to touch actual rock taken from the moon) just adds to the experience. Throw in the launch simulators and IMAX 3D theatres and its a pretty full on day that no doubt will go down as a highlight of this holiday.
When we got back to the hotel, we had just an hour or so to freshen up and head back to the resort's Tropicale restaurant for their New Year's Eve buffet. Let's face it, Americans don't do anything by halves when it comes to eating, so you can imagine how good the buffet was.
We get the chance to walk it all off tomorrow when we do the first of two days at Universal Studios Orlando.
For now though, we're waiting to watch the ball drop in Times Square live on tv.
(Yeah I know - such celebrations are soooooo last year for you folk down under!)
