Craig & Jills Round the World Trip
We set off to germany on Thursday with our friends Dave & Jill, who kindly were driving across. We got the ferry to Calais on Thursday and then drove up to Brussels for the night. We got there in good time and were able to have a walk round the centre of Brussels, going to the very nice main square surrounded in grand old gothic looking buildings. Craig enjoyed the mussels, and I got to enjoy a yummy waffle.
Friday we drove to Frankfurt, we are staying in Darmstadt about 20mins outside the centre. We watched the germany game in a strange locals bar full of germans, but no problems, craig got to have his first stein of beer.
Saturday we got up early and arrived into Frankfurt for 9am, to make sure we fully enjoyed the game.We headed to the main square and luckily found a space for our flag right in the middle. The square started to fill up nicely all morning with hundreds of england fans and flags. All very happy in the sunshine, singing and looking forward to the match. We headed off to the match and after a nightmare of trying to get a train, we arrived at the ground in plenty of time. We got in the ground no problem with our tickets which weren't in our name, they didnt seem to be checking them like fifa had threatened. The ground no surprise was mainly full of english fans, however not all english! Next to us were some chinese in england shirts, plus lots of germans bizzarrley supporting england. We were sat 2nd to last row behind the goal, not the end we scored at. We were sat with a load of young scalleys from liverpool. We enjoyed the first half, a bit disappointed with the display of second half, but considering the heat, and that we got 3points happy overall. Cracking atmosphere which continued into the night, as we headed back into the centre and sat in some bars. No real problems trouble wise, got back to our hotel about 1am. Today relaxed in the sun.
