Last day in Cairns today. We got up early and headed to Cairns Marina to go out on a reef cruise. The sea was extremely choppy on the way out, I'd say 60% of the boat were being sick out the back. Luckily, Sarah and I took our travels pills so we were all good although I was glad to stop once we finally got there an hour and half later! On arrival at the Great Barrier Reef, we had 3 hours of snorkelling at the first stop which was incredible! The coral was beautiful to look at, so colourful and lots of different fish, I even spotted a massive turtle and swam down to it. I must have woken it up as it slowly started to swim up to the surface, it was amazing! I got lots of photos! After we had finished in the water, there was a massive BBQ on the boat which we both tucked into. The boat then continued onto the next stop, it was really rough water there so there weren't that many big fish or any sharks but still incredible! Back on the boat we were served with fresh fruit, just what we needed after hours of being in the salty water. Then the boat headed back to Cairns. The chef played guitar most of the way back whilst Sarah and I had a little snooze.
I was knackered by the time we got back. We showered in the beach showers and packed up. Sarah was unwell today with tonsillitis so we went to the hospital to get some antibiotics. By this point, it was 9 at night so we filled Paul up with petrol and headed South on our first road trip to Townsville. After 2 hours of driving, I was struggling to stay awake so luckily we found a rest stop which is basically the same as a campsite but without electricity and drinking water. Ideal for what we needed...and it was free! There's loads of these all the way down the east coast and on the Bruce Highway so we're going to try use these as much as possible! It's pretty creepy though! Going to try not to drive in the dark again, don't want to knock into any Kangaroos!
