After the amazing three-day tour in Uyuni I took the most horrible bus to Potosí, the world' highest city (4090m). The first day went by going to a doctor and (finally!) getting a cure for the HAS, walking around the beautiful, rough, steep, and narrow alleys and attending a rather funny Christmas party in the central plaza in the evening (got some pretty awesome pictures with Santa, Grinch, Buzz Lightyear, and other legendary characters).
The second day I went to see the famous mines of Potosí which in the early days made Potosí world's biggest city in population (a bit over 200,000 inhabitants in the 16th century). Beforehand I got myself this cool outfit with all the protective stuff like a helmet, boot, etc. The actual mine inside the Cerro Rico still holds immense amounts of silver, zinc, and other metals and is a working place for thousands of miners.
Going around in the small passages (and seriously hitting my head once or twice), inhaling the nasty dusty air caused by the continuos drilling, seeing the miners in action, and hearing the dynamites exploding was awesome. Not mind-blowing as Lonely Planet says but still cool.
Afterwards, took a bus to La Paz from where I took immediately a bus to Copacabana from where I took a boat to Isla del Sol: I had arrived to Lake Titicaca, the biggest high altitude lake in the world. Hanged around there with these two Argentinos from Mar del Plata, made some traditional Argentine cuisine, hiked in the island, celebrated the new year in a small family restaurant in the middle of the forest and had just great time.
Next to Perú, Cuzco, and Machu Picchu!
