I am starting to walk the Pacific Crest Trail on November 14, 2013, from the US / Mexico border at Mile 0 and intending to arrive at the Canada / US border at mile 2655 by my 65th birthday in September 2015. I am starting to walk the Pacific Crest Trail on November 14, 2013, from the US / Mexico border at Mile 0 and intending to arrive at the Canada / US border at mile 2655 by my 65th birthday in September 2015. I have been dreaming of this hike for years, thinking that I would, or could, at most walk a few hundred miles of the PCT. After a great backpacking trip into the Grand Canyon earlier this year, and earlier hikes of El Camino in Spain and the Salkantay Pass in Peru in 2011, it is time to get going or to find a more sedentary dream.
I will walk in sections, taking advantage of the more favorable seasons for each area. My wife Lynn will join me for some of the trip and I hope a few friends will also.
This blog is my record of my experiences and emotions as I progress, and I will blog daily and up-date as I get a cell signal. I fully recognize that I may decide this is not for me after a few long, lonely days and nights on the trail, or that my body will not co-operate. But at least I will give it my best.
Camel up. Water is heavy.
