Today is our last day in Europe and as I write this we're once again in transit, this time on a speed train to our next destination. This morning we woke up in Paris and tonight we will be flying from London to Thailand where we will find our next room to call home for a few days. We have now been traveling for a long time and on the 16th of December, it will mark eleven months since we left Australia. It has been a year full of many memorable moments and we have experienced a lot already, yet our journey is not quite over just yet. With two more countries to visit we will soon have completed our voyage and on the 15th of January 2013, we will be on a plane home. To think that we have come this far and have managed to achieve our dream, and keep the journey going for the full 365 days feels like a great achievement and not once have we looked back. Never before have so many things inspired me within one year, and these things will continue to inspire me for a long time.
So it has also been a long time since I wrote another blog and time is one thing that has once again not been freely available to do so. Since leaving Vancouver in the middle of October, we have been on the move so much and travelled through so many places that all our time has been spent doing exactly what we intended on doing. Traveling, traveling and traveling as far and wide as we possibly could and our feet have carried us for miles across parts of the rugged north of the Yukon, the snowy parks of the Rockies, concrete streets of Toronto and Niagara Falls, buzzing sidewalks of New York, pebbled streets of London, historic streets of Berlin, quaint alleys of Darmstatd and the romantic pathways in Paris. Each place that we have visited, we're out and about exploring as much as we can unless we're home planning the next destination and weighing up the costs of transport and accommodation. There is really not much 'down time' with our itinerary and there are many days where we're very tired and it is not all one sweet and easy journey. Many decisions need to be made all the time and sometimes the challenges rise when traveling through foreign countries that don't speak English. However it is all so worth it and the more you achieve, the more you want to keep on achieving.
I have managed to write about every place we have visited trough the America's until we reached Toronto. This is the most I have fallen behind in my blog and with the last few months being as active as they have been, blog writing was not a priority. When there are flights, buses, planes, trains and accommodation to book, maps to navigate and currencies to convert, some things have to be put aside. I will make the time to still write all about these places and I still intend to have a book printed as a memento for us to keep. As our collection of photos rises and rises, so do our stories. Home once felt so far away and now it is starting to feel closer again as we make our way closer to the continent…
Well our train has now arrived and I am back to writing this blog at the London Heathrow airport…
So for now this is a little update as we leave behind us another continent as we make our way further around the globe. Checking into our flight from London tonight, I opened my bag to see I still had a small collection of odd coins, a German phrase book and some summer shorts stuffed at the bottom. It is freezing outside and this is the last of the chill we will feel until we land in Osaka at the end of the month. It has been a surreal day waking up in our apartment in Paris and spending half the day fitting in a little more exploring, this time at the Catacombs. Not the most romantic side of the city however something that is definitely very different. Arriving back in London brings with it a little more comfort as we can communicate in English again, but before we know it will be saying 'Sawatee Ka' and sitting by the pool with a nice cold beer and reminiscing about the past eleven months so far, and dreaming up plans for the following months to follow. This will be our holiday from our holiday and a chance for us to plan our Japan adventure. In about half an hour we will be boarding the plane and soon all these winter woollies will be of no use to us, until we reach Japan of course. With a little more down time coming up, I will have many blogs to post and before we all know it, we will be back home in the heat of the Australian summer.
….. Well we have arrived in Bangkok! Tired and delirious here we are. Our flight from London was delayed by four hours as we all sat on the tarmac waiting for the plan to take off. Our captain explained to us the cause of the delays and as they were resolved, another one would pop up. The flight was more uncomfortable than some long bus rides we had caught in South America, but we arrived safe and sound eventually. We are now in the comfort of our hotel room and Bangkok is hot and the traffic is crazy. We were relieved to walk in and find a comfortable room until I realised I left one of my bags in the taxi. A credit card, my camera, a few postcards that will now never be sent and a few other things are now somewhere else. So close the end of our trip without losing too much yet this time I wasn't so lucky.
Well we have about a month and half of traveling time left that will be spent in Bangkok, the south of Thailand and in Japan. More stories to come! I have so much to write about and within time, all of my blogs will be complete. Within one year, so many things have happened that I must write about them to record as many of these experiences as I can. One year of memorable moments has bought with it a life time of inspiration.
…. 24hrs later and I can finally post this blog. Since then my bag has been returned by the lovely taxi driver and we're both very happy. We are flying to the south of Thailand on Sunday but still need to decide where we're going… time to get back to planning.
