Cuba - More than old cars
Weather: mainly sunny, 22º C
Slept in a bit after our late meal last night. Still not used to this late eating and must go back to our other model of eating the main meal at lunch and snacking on tapas in the early evening.
Sought the start for the “Running of the Bulls” and started our official walk of the run. It is a 900m run by 6 bulls and a whole lot of fools in front of them. Apparently it goes on each morning for a week in July. With the chaos of the run it always seemed to us like there were lots of bulls. To the fools in front it probably does seem like a lot of bulls.
We were hoping to get in and see the Bull Ring (3rd largest in the world) where it all ends but it was locked up and no sign of any tours being available. Did have information of its history on the outside however.
As we were near the old city walls we thought we would go for a walk on them around to the cathedral. Quite a bit of it was under repair but it is a significant wall. Went into the cathedral which itself was not overly impressive. A couple of really good features however were the cloisters, which are considered among the best Gothic cloisters in Europe, and the museum. The museum was impressive- the only improvement for us would have been to have the explanations in English along with the Spanish and Basque languages.
Off to the main square for lunch and to have a look at some of Hemmingway’s haunts (hotel and bars). Next back to the wall and continue the walk. We wanted to fit in a visit to the town hall but might manage to do it the morning before we leave for Zaragoza.
We had a light dinner tonight with one of the plates being Octupus done in the regional style. This was octopus on scallop potatoes under a layer of paprika. A little less paprika would have made it tastier for us anyway.
