Cuba - More than old cars
Weather today - 22 degrees C and not a cloud in the sky.
Both refreshed from a long sleep we set off to join route 1 of the hop-on hop-off bus trip with the plan to visit both the Reina Sofia and Thyssen museums. Optimistic we were as we only managed the Reina Sofia. This is a museum of modern art predominantly from Spanish artists. The show piece painting of the museum is Picasso's Guernica; an iconic 3m x 7m painting. The reason we ended up spending most the day at this museum was due to the special exhibition of Dali. While we have seen some of his works before we have not seen quite this number in a single exhibition.
Entry to the Dali Exhibition was at a set time and ours was 430 which was not convenient based on our plans but what the hell - couldn't miss the opportunity. It was worth it but no photos allowed of course.
The trip on the bus was a good decision taking us around the older parts of the city with lots of explanations. Gave us a good sense of direction and location - well one of us anyway - and an idea of what we might want to come back and visit further. Tomorrow we plan to do the 2nd bus route which takes us up to the newer part of the city and CBD etc.
From the bus we saw a small demonstration of about 1,000 people outside the city hall objecting to the austerity measures. You can see the people in the photo included here. Apart from that there have been no other signs of problems.
