Douglas Brown's Travels
Day 6 We set off this morning under very grey skies and as we were pulling out of the hotel parking lot it began to rain.It rained all day today and we had to ride through low cloud on the mountain roads. I could not even see the dashboard on my bike. Scary stuff and probably the hardest riding I have ever done. But I enjoyed it After crossing the border into Austria we stopped for lunch at a wonderful cafe by a lake. We were al, drenched and the heated grips on our bikes were getting a work out keeping our hands warm in wet gloves. I did not get a chance to take any photos on the ride today as the weather was just too bad. Graz is the second largest city in Austria and has 6 universities and in 2003 was the Cultural Capital of Europe. It is also the birth place of Arnold Swartzenegger. We arrived at our hotel and left puddles of water in the reception area as we booked in. First order of business was a hot shower and to hang my wet riding gear up and hope it at least partially dried for tomorrow. At 6:45pm we all met in reception and our guides took us for a site seeing walk around Graz and we finally ended up at tonights resturant for dinner. Another superb meal wad provided finished off of course by Austrian Apple strudel. The Americans decided they would adopt me as I was enough like. A Texan. This would then give us a group of Aussies and a group of Americans. It was also decided that i needed an American name so they chose Bubba Brown. It was then announced to the Aussies that we were now known as the American group and than my new Texan name was Bubba.
