Sand dunes. Pond. That's about it, and it's awesome.
Got here to Huacachina today around noon. This little oasis is a few kilometers outside if Ica. There are a few restaurants, hotels and a sh*t Ron of dune buggies. The last time I was on a dune biggie was in Texas with Auntie Cheryl when us kids stole some Hohos, Dingdongs and ran away. The day ended up with Ross somehow getting his leg run over by one of the twins. I wasn't phased... Best day ever. Sorry, I digress.
Needless to say. Dune buggies, yes. I signed up for a ride because I had already swam in the pool enough for an albino redhead and finished my book. ( I digress again. I am writing his as I eat a brownie Sunday made my an expat Brit! Cha Ching)
We got into the dune biggie, all 10 of us from around the world. We were strapped in like a roller coaster. I had the front seas next to the driver. We took off. It was fun. Pure fun. The kind where you know if someone took a picture, you would look like a a huge dork with the biggest s*** eating grin in your face. Well, that was me. Got sand stuck to my teeth because if it (there and everywhere else.) the driver took us us up and down hills at a crazy speed.
We stopped and he got out sand boards for all of us. They are basically wooden snowboards that your Velcro to your feet. From there we boarded down a few slopes, the biggie came to get us, ten we did it again. It was kind of like Cat Skiing (don't laugh Jamie..)
It was fun... The way you could get the
Most speed was laying on your stomach going head first. THAT was scary at first, but ended up being the best position, cutting down on the number of biffs. We finished the trip as the sun went down and cast a pink glow on everything. I had my first tan from sand covering me head to toe. I showered an am now am eating a brownie.
Tomorrow I have to say goodbye to o'ole Peru and hello to Tehas!
Tomorrow
