We are back in Business Class! No lines at Paris airport, straight through check in to immigration to the Air France lounge...So spoilt. The almost 11 hour trip was great with Rossco and I getting a little shut eye along the way.
We arrived at Hanoi airport at 6:30 am and were whisked through immigration, baggage claim and customs and were at the hotel at 7:30 am. The Hotel is the Intercontinental on Westlake, about 30 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from central Hanoi. We were provided with the room key to room 666 much to Rossco's delight!
We wasted no time in tracking down Rossco's Sister Leesa and Brother-in-law Troy, who had planned to stay here in the hotel with us as the passed through Vietnam on their way through to Phuket in Thailand.
First order of business in Hanoi was to head to the Old Quarter of Hanoi to discover its treasures. We hit upon the shopping district immediately where we visited the famous Hang Dau Street (Shoe Street) in which every store sells shoes, and the surrounding streets that focus also on single products; sunglasses, haberdashery and clothing.
With the weather being so humid, it wasn't long before it was time to head back to the hotel. The four of us enjoyed the rest of the afternoon by the pool with some lunch (with refreshments of course) and regular dips in the cooling pool, tempered with laughs and stories of travels.
In the evening we visited a popular restaurant Quan An Ngon where we ate some amazing traditional Vietnamese food including; pork buns, lemongrass clams, Vietnamese Prawn Pancake and Chilli Crab. Coupled with Vietnamese beer we were very content indeed!
Following dinner we wondered the streets and came across a little bar called Kudo Cafe where we finished the evening with some cocktails for Leesa and I, and more refreshing Vietnamese beers for Rossco and Troy.
