Worlds Day One Races 1&2
Wind today 10 to 14kts easterly, sky overcast.
Day one of the worlds and one container of seven boats (10% of the fleet) still has not arrived from the west coast USA. It is marooned somewhere near Haiti and doesn’t look like making it until the second last day of the worlds. The sailors are sad but now resigned and are making the best of a bad situation.
Paul and Earle sailed really well all things considered (Paul is rapidly learning which rope is which). Hanging in around the mid 20s for much of both races they have also featured on the top ten leader board (ever so briefly) after each start. A raft up at the bottom mark in the second race saw them drop around 20 places which was a pity. Final scores were 28 and 41.
I can report that the free coffees remain excellent in the sailors lounge and that my new snorkel is now working just fine. The shallows of Carlisle Bay are home to quite a number of fish and turtles even though the seabed is not all that interesting.
