I caught a bus from Flores to Belize City, which to my disappointment was uneventful. Not like the one from Guatemala City. The border crossing was the easiest I have done so far. I had to pay 10 Qasales to leave which I'm sure goes straight into the immigration officers back pocket. The little brown envelope he was putting it into did not help change my thinking on the subject. Â I arrived in Belize City & then imediately caught a water taxi to Caye Caulker. Its a typical Caribbean island. Palm trees, white sand & no cars only golf carts that act as taxis. I found a great place to stay. Its the Blue Wave & I have a great view of the sea plus a hammock to lie in. Its been pretty hot here. 32C most days.Â
Over the past 5 days I have done 11 scuba dives. The waters over here are plentiful. Almost like Thailand. I swam with a huge loggerhead turtle, which was very exciting.
I have also seen hawksbill turtles, nurse sharks, reef sharks, eagle rays, sting rays, giant groupers, lobsters & hundreds of tropic fish. Yesterday was a great end to my diving when we went to the Blue Hole made famous by Jacques Costeau. Its a underwater cave that roof collapsed. We decended to 42m and swam amongst 5m stalactites and stalacmites. We then had lunch on Half Moon Caye Natural Monument. Its a beautiful island which also has a bird sanctury for Belizean Booby's and Frigates.
I met a great German couple, Peter & Ina. They live in Texas and have been here for a dive holiday. We have been spending a lot of time together as we get on very well. They dived with me every so often. They are moving back to Germany in the next 12 months. I hope we can catch up again when they are back there.
Well that's all for now. Am going to go have a relaxing brunch and then try fix the local police commissioners pc.
