After seeing Warren in Lexington, I flew my way this time, over to Seattle to meet Maricelle. Our plan was to hang out for a week while making our way down the coast to eventually arrive in San Francisco where I would then fly out to England from. I got to meet Maricelle's parents who were really nice. It was her dads birthday, so we had a nice big dinner for us when we got there. They actually live in Maple Valley just outside of Seattle, so before we got there, Marci and I did a bit of shirt shopping and wandering around the city. We were also travelling with Marci's friend Paul who I had met when Chris and I had first come through. So we went over to his place to get all his stuff so that we could just leave the next morning.
The first day on the road was good. Paul is a big surfer, so we stopped at this beach which was pretty cold, but there were some guys out there surfing. I guess being the first day, Paul thought there would be more opportunities to surf, so he didn't get in. Little did he know that that was not to be the case. It was at that beach that found my first bits of wood which I began to widdle and start a week long obsession with. Marci found it hillarious, and has ton of photos she took every time she caught me widdling.
We eventually arrived in the Redwood Forrest where we spent 2 nights. It's really cool driving though to get there, as there are these massive trees just centimeteres off the road. Marci loves her trees, so got a real kcik out of being there. We also managed to get a hike in on our second day there. At the information center, the guy there warned us about poison oak, and even showed us what we needed to look out for. The hike was really scenic, with some stream crossings, and again with the massive trees all around it was quite amazing. The mozzies eventually got to us, so we made our way back walking along the stream.
We also stopped at a number of cool towns along the way, for lunch, and to find a surfing spot. The drive down is right along the coast, and you get to look straight down over the ocean. It was beautiful. Eventually we arrived in San Francisco where we spent our first night at an RV/camp site, just outside the city. It was a little wierd being in a carpark basically, camping in a tent. It served a purpose though. Then we were finally able to get a night at one of the hostels right in the heart of the busy area of town. It's a lot better than the first place Chris and I stayed at when we got here. So the 3 of us went for a walk, and stumbled upon a Jazz festival where we got to see a bit of live music, and people dancing, and other such things.
On our last night they had a band playing in the ballroom (common eating area which looks like a ballroom), so we just spent our night with a few drinks hangin out watching them play. We were going to head out after that, but after a few drinks we were all a little tired, so we went to bed. Then the next day Marci and Paul had to leave, so we were up early, and we said our
goodbyes. That always sucks. So now I'm in by myself for the first time in 3 months.
