On our way to Kakadu National Park-excited- and ready to explore. Stopped at Mary River roadhouse for lunch and pay permit fee, then headed down a very corrugated, rocky road ( approx 10km/hr the last 9kms of the trip!)
Into the Gunlom camping area, well worth the drive and effort!! Hot showers, lovely grassy camping areas and a spectacular 70meter waterfall, falling into a gorgeous, sandy bottom water hole! After speaking to the ranger, we were pleased to hear swimming was a goer-with only 2 resident fresh water crocodiles! A late afternoon dip was exhilarating!
There is also a longer, more steep walk up to the top of the waterfall, which the ranger promises is worth the effort! Looking forward to checking it out in the am. Lovely night watching the cliffs change colours as the sun went down.
