Jai-pur!Jai-pur!!Biobio!!(Slumdog Millionaire style)
We took a local bus from Agra to Jaipur.....this was quiet a luxurious bus with good leg room and not so many crazy inbdians!
Jaipur is known as the Pink City due to its terrocota walls reflecting in the sunlight and giving a pink hue.We checked into the Jaipiur Inn, this was more of a hostel than the other hotels we've stayed in with a chill out zone, roof top bar and swing!
We took a cycle rickershaw trip into town for our orientation walk.....this was supposed to be a relaxing way to see the city but ended up in disaster.Alana and I were in a bike together.....as we were making our way along we say a horse who lets just say was ready to mate (!!!) we both squealed and giggled (immature I know but this thing was the size of Tibet). With our laughter the driver turned to see what we were laughing at......again bad move!!!He obviously thought that we like the horse!!For the next 2 hours the driver told us how Indian man was also big and strong like horse.....pointed out any other horse we passed.......this got worse and worse and ended with him asking if we liked sex (a question which is shocking in conservative India). We were horrified.....especially when he turned down a side street....we thought we were going to be kidnapped into the sex trade.....and we hadn't had a bikini wax!!After an aging ride home we finally arrived into the safety of the hostel........lessoned learnt....don't ever point out a horses erection in India....it gets you in trouble!!!
On a more peaceful note we rose early to go to Amber Fort, this beautiful fort is built into the mountainside and makes for beautiful panoramic views all around. Here the elephants are used to take you up the steep hillside to the fort, we rode upon the back of these beautiful animals......it spraying its spit on us all the way and its neighbour causing a flood when nature calls.......an amazing experience. Here we saw how the King (Maharaja) would use a secret tunnel system to creep from his marital bed to visit his Harem in the dead of night. This beautiful place has steam rooms, roman baths and even a modern day air conditioning where they would wet reads and eucalyptus and place them on the veranda....the breeze would then carry a cooling moisture into the palace and of course the ecalytus would help cover up the nasty smells!!
We went to an authentic Tahli restaurant tonight.Thali is like a mini buffet for each individual, usually vegetarian it consists of a poppadom, a Dhal, a small bowl of panner or vegetable curry, rice and a roti, along with the curd and pickles, tonight's feast also had a fowl cold pea and water drink.....it tasted like allotment in a glass...grim!We sat in what looked like a greasy spoon cafe with red plastic seats and strip florescent lighting, but the delicious meal (minus the pea drink) cost a mighty 60 RPS , that's about 90p!!
On to Pushkar the Holy city tomorrow by local bus....I think this could be an experience!!
