Brie & Trent's Travels
Wow have we had a long day today...
We woke up this morning around 5am to get moving to the airport to catch our flight to Milan. We caught the airport bus at 545am and then we caught our flight. It was so funny, because on our way to the bus there were more people on the streets than there were at 9 or 10am. The nightlife never stops in Spain. We got our sleep though because we were bracing ourselves for one of our longest traveling days. We arrived in Milan around 930 and took the Malpensa Express which took us into the center of Milan where we had to catch the Metro to the central train station to catch a train to Venice. All was pretty smooth and we bought our train tickets for 10min before departure... there was a little bit of running involved but it was worth it to not have to wait for the next train. We made it into Venice and then we had to walk to the central bus station to catch a bus that took us to our hostel. I dont think we could have done any more traveling.
While we were there Milan seemed cooler than Barcelona, but that certainly isnt the case in Venice. Just as hot as ever. I think it is just over 100. Maybe 103. We cleaned up at the hostel and then took advantage of what energy we had left to take the bus back into the city and catch the canal ferry to the Academia (which is a huge art museum there). Both the Academia and the Guggenheim were closed already, so we are going to visit them tomorrow.
Venice is so beautiful... there are no cars (the bus we took to our hostel is outside of Venice) and so everyone gets around by taking a canal taxi or canal bus or by foot of course. The city isnt that big, it is full of windy streets that can get you lost which we learned already. The houses are all so slender and tall.. and have different colors. The gondolas look like a fun ride, it is too bad that they cost soo much (start at 60e). There are so many gelato places I wanted some so bad but I was too full from eating an enormous vegetale pizza with Trent. I had been craving pizza for days. I almost ate some in Barcelona but I made myself wait... and it was worth it. It had zucchini, eggplant, and peperoni (which I guess means red peppers).. anyways it was really good and I canà t believe that we ate it all. Despite what everyone said about Venice being really expensive I think that there are ways around it. Our huge pizza from Pizza Volo was 10e, and our hostel is only 23e per night... not to mention it has our favorite shower yet, and free breakfast.
We are so tired from all of our traveling we are just going to take it easy and go to bed early tonight (but not until after I try my sparkling venetian wine that is chilling in our bathroom sink full of cold water because ice is nowhere to be found in europe).
Tomorrow we plan on visiting the Academia, Guggenheim, St. Marks Cathedral, and Doges Palace... ambitious but we need to hit all the sights before we head to Florence on Monday. We love you and miss you all. By the way, Trent was writing a huge journal entry yesterday when the computer shut down...so this ones from both of us ;)
