The small town of the strangely named 1770 was my next destination for a peaceful and relaxing time. Stayed at a really cool hostel, appropriately named Cool Bananas. This is the last place up the east coast where you can surf so with no hesitation me & andy set off to catch some waves...hopefully catch some waves. After our lesson, on the sand, we hit the water and after a while I managed to get up standing once in 3 hours and a few times on my knees but that one time felt so good!! Got the taste for it so next day we went again, this time getting on my feet twice!! But unfortunately I hurt my groin coming off so never surfed again for the 2 weeks we stayed in 1770.
Most of my time was taken up lounging on the beach and watching the World Cup at night but there were still some good times had. Went on a scooter tour around the area on a mini chopper where at the end of the tour we sat on the rocks with a beer and wedges watching the sunset. Met Paul & Ped (2 guys from Fraser Island) at cool bananas where we played a lot of scrabble, sounds geeky but was good fun, we adapted the game into a drinking game if that makes it sound cool...we had fun.
Anyway, me & andy managed to get some work at the hostel, helping a mate of the manager move house, it was at 6am but no complaining as we got 3 free nights accommodation. After realising we had been there 2 weeks we decided it was time to move on...next stop Airlie Beach
