Manizales, Colombia
So I begin my travel journal by traveling to the exotic destination that is my place of employment, Colegio Granadino. This day begins, like many other have over the past four and a half years, by standing on the avenue, waiting for the bus. Normally, after boarding, transportation would continue for about 20 minutes down the mountain, into the valley, and up the mountain to school. On this particular day a rain provoked landslide has altered the routine and has added about 15 minutes and the neighbourhood of Fatima onto the mountainous journey. Upon arrival, I fill my large Tim Horton's mug with Colombian coffee, converse with my colleagues, and prepare for the rest of my day. I know there will be challenges, frustration, and maybe confrontation, but they will be surpassed by smiles, laughter, and inspiration. On this day I will continue to "make the difference", and at 4:30 I will grin while walking quickly toward the school exit, where the bus will be waiting to take me home.
