This morning we managed to ride the bus and underground to the airport during rush hour without much trouble, despite having to lug our suitcases up and down stairs, lifts and escalators and through turnstiles. We arrived at Heathrow, the Switzerland of airports (no, that's not a compliment) a bit earlier than required to give ourselves extra time to get through the chaos. There was no queue at the check in luckily, but we were greeted by an airline representative offering us £600 each to take the evening flight as the morning one was overbooked. Hmmm, tempting, but no.
The flight to Singapore was uneventful and we didn't sleep much but did watch lots of movies :) Richard met us at the airport and brought us back to his apartment in the CBD. It's a rather flash looking building called The Sail (it's shaped like one) and he's on floor 36 of 70 with some stunning views over Marina Bay. Rebecca was quite at peace with being in a high rise building, which was great as there's no real alternative in Singapore! Richard had to go to work and we headed straight for bed as we were knackered, and three hours passed most pleasantly.
We found some lunch at 3pm at a shopping mall built entirely underground. We then walked around the waterfront a bit, enjoying the views of the spectacular buildings. We spent a quick minute in the Louis Vuitton store only to laugh at the price tags on things, but the joke was on us as everything was in glass cases behind the staff and nothing displayed its price. I guess if you have to ask its price, then it's not for you.
Richard took us and Berry (the other singer in his band) out for dinner that night to one of his favourite Thai spots. Along the way we saw the famous Merlion, a lion with a fish tail with water coming out its mouth. It's meant to represent the fishing origins of Singapore and its early name as the lion city. A bit weird we thought, but it does give Singapore something unique to put on each and every souvenir :) Dinner was great that night, but the soft shelled crab wasn't my favourite, sorry!
