This morning we got up early to go and see a bit of Innsbruck before we had to check out of our camp site by 12. We raced around the outer city sights, which included the winter Olympic stadium and ski jump and a view of the Innsbruck castle from up high. We then found a spot to park and walked around the historic part of town. We were busy consulting our map wondering where the building with the golden roof was, until we looked up and saw we were standing in front of it! Oops! It was a pretty building and the town was very nice too.
After a shortish drive among the impatient Austrians, we were in Salzburg, where we got to take part in one of the latest crazes that was sweeping the city: shade bathing. In shade bathing, you get in your togs, get wet somehow (for us it was our campsite's pool), and then find a spot of shade to lie in. It's a great way to cool down in the 30 something degree heat!
When the violent sun had nearly said goodnight, we went for a short drive to Mondsee which is a lake side holiday type town. We took a few photos of the church there, made famous as the wedding church from the Sound of Music. There were lots of people out in the streets at the various bars and restaurants, and quite a few of them were in traditional Austrian dress. Interestingly, they weren't always dressed up in couples and sometimes it was a man dressed up with his wife wearing something less silly, or vice versa. Either way, it added a nice touch to the awesome atmosphere of a really cute town.
Dinner that night was left over risotto and pancakes which was our most ambitious meal so far. It didn't turn out too badly :) Bed time was early that night in preparation for a full on day of visiting Salzburg.
