Way not enough time to cover all thats been going on but i'll try. I have about 20 min before my bus leaves for Luang Prabang, a 12 hour bus trip, very exciting;-S We crossed the border yesterday in Laos, Anna had thought she had a 60 day Thai Visa and was very shocked and devestated to find it was only 30 days and she'd been in Thaialnd for 45, with an overstay fee of 500 baht a day or around $250 total. We split for a day before that and she went to Chiang Mai to go Mountain biking and I went up to the most northern point in Thailand and crossed over to Myanmar (Burma) for a few hours, so now that I am in Laos it is my 3rd country in 3 days. Immigration into Myanmar was challenging as i'd paid my one day visa fee and got into the country to find out they had no atm's and i had about 200 baht left in my wallet so i had to get back accross the border to use the atm and then try and get back to Burma, the Thai immigration ady tried to charge me 100 baht just to hold my passport for 10 min but I somehow talked my way out of it, or just walked off on her, i cant remember which.
Since I wrote last in Mai Hong Son i think it was we hitched for 8 hours from there first to Mai Sariang with a bunch of school aged kids who thought they were very cool because they knew about 3 words in English, the communication broke down when they dropped as off at the bus station in town which we didnt want to be at because there was no other bus for 8 hours so we had to walk back to the main road and we got picked up easily enough and went with this guy a couple of towns, then we me an Australian guy and his Burmese wife who work for ADRA in Thailand which was kinda cool cos his name was Brendon too and they told us about these development projects they are working on with the hilltribes. We finally got to Chom thong and found a guesthouse and relaxed because the next day we were going up Do Inthanon, the highest peak in Thailand 2555 metres, a few houndred metres higher then Kosciusko. We hired a motor bike and thought we had enough fuel but half way up we had to ditch the bike because we wouldnt have had enough to get back down so we hitched the rest of the way up in the back ute's, one guy picked us up but his car had not enough power to get up the steep roads so me and Anna tried to push his car to give him a hand, just imagine it an Australian guy and a Czech girl trying to push a ute up the highest peak in Thailand. It was a funny moment. We gave up though and got a lift to the top with someone else. It was quite amazing up the top, we got a photo next to the sign saying the highest point in Thailand. We didnt make it down in time for our bus back to Chiang Mai though so we had to wait an hour for the next one, which meant we didnt get into Chaing Mai til about 7.30 so I got stranded there overnight because there were no buses heading north at that time. So I had to get a bus at 6 in the morning to Mai Sai and Anna stayed in Chiang Mai which I said before. Mai Sai was a cool town, one of my favourite villages so far.
I Missed a few things but thats the general idea of whats been going on. I found out the other day my credit cards were charging me double everytime I took money out so I stressed the other day and had to sort it and found that it was a mistake on their part which was good to know. Ok I am running late now so I will write again in a few days. Looking forward to what Laos has to offer.
