The alarm rudely sounded at 4.30 to start our day of travel to Paris. Being up so early we unfortunately missed out on another amazing Sofitel breakfast but after a taxi, then Etihad bus we were at Abu Dhabi airport where we checked in then headed for the Al Reem Lounge for a free breakfast and thankfully also some fantastic cappuccinos!! Heading back to Terminal 3 to get our flight we ended up being stuck in a very long queue to go through security between terminals, then we were stuck in a mass of people at our gate as 2 flights leaving 15mins apart were boarding right next to each other! For one of the newest airports in the world it seemed to be extremely badly designed. Additionally there seemed to be a lot of air bridges but we were carted on and off the plane via buses even flying Etihad. This flight was an Air France plane with half Etihad staff & tiny screens. Having not watched anything on either flights so far I ended up watching 2 films on these tiny TVs. Nothing remarkable about the flight & luckily just under 7 hrs. We arrived in pretty much on time at 2.30 but it took until 4 to get off the plane, onto another bus, out of the gate, through immigration & work out which ticket to get for the metro into Paris. Luckily we arrived at our Airbnb flat a few mins before 5.30 to meet Jean who showed us into the little flat we had rented for our 3 nights here. It was a little further from the station than we expected but there were more cafes & shops around which was good after a long day of travelling. We went for a walk around the big roundabout at Nation station close by & stopped for a beer in a street side cafe. Of course we drank it at the bar to save money :-p Finding bustling cafe nearby for dinner we did a fantastic job deciphering the menu in French & ordering 2 delicious meals. I had poached salmon fillet with salad & a zucchini quiche thing on the side & Sean had grilled pork with pepper sauce, chips & salad. Not bad at €12 each! It was only around 9pm by the time we got back to our flat but I could barely keep my eyes open so it was an early night for me after finally arriving in Europe!
